The immunological preparation of calves for the 2nd rearing stge (reproduction or fattening) must be done immediately after parturition, so that the animal can develop its own protective antibodies, before the neutralization of the passive ones received from the mother through the colostrum. The protective value of the triviral and tribacterial vaccines inoculated simultaneously to suckling calves in various raising establishments was investigated. Following these vaccinations, a reduction of the illness and mortality rates by 40% was noted, any postvaccinal reactions being at the same time avoided. The application of these vaccines may be done in association with antibiotics and chemotherapics in order to control other infections. The increased antibody titers obtained by serological and hematological reactions confirm the onset of adequate immunity, after the application of vaccinations during the first days of life, the animals becoming resistant to associated infections frequently encountered in fattening units.
