Sorghum in compound feeds for pigs and poultry ii. partial replacement of corn with sorghum in compound feeds for broiler chicks

Sorghum in compound feeds for pigs and poultry ii. partial replacement of corn with sorghum in compound feeds for broiler chicks

Zhivotnov"dni Nauki 26(4): 65-69

In a metabolism trial and a performance experiment with broiler chicks was established the digestibility of protein and amino acids of yellow sorghum as well as its effect as a component of compound feeds on broiler productivity. Results of the experiments indicated that the apparent digestibility of protein of the studied sorghum was close to that of corn protein (82 and 81%), however, of markedly lower digestibility of lysine (53 and 70%) and of the essential amino acids (75.5 and 78.6%, respectively). Compound feeds for broiler chicks containing 20% sorghum and balanced in basal nutrients, provided for the same live weight of chicks as mixtures containing only corn as a cereal.sbd.1407 and 1394 g, respectively and practically the same feed to gain ratio (2.422 and 2.406 kg).
