Stability of resistance to organophosphorus insecticides in the diamondback moth plutella xylostella linne lepidoptera yponomeutidae

Six field populations of the diamondback moth exhibiting moderate and high levels of resistance to organophosphorus insecticides were reared without insecticidal selection and the fluctuations in the resistance levels to various organophosphorus insecticides were investigated by the topical application method using 4th-instar larvae. The resistance to organophosphorus insecticides decreased as generations proceeded in all the populations tested but the degree and speed of the decrease were different among the populations. In the moderately resistant populations, Nagakute and Takano, the resistance to some organophosphorus insecticides decreased drastically only a few generations after collection. In the highly resistant population, Tsumagoi, Yokota, Gobb and Naha, a drastic decrease was also observed in the 10-20th or further generations. Resistance spectrum to organophosphorus insecticides in the highly resistant populations hardly changed in spite of the decrease of the resistance.
