The number of so-called pre-hatch chicks, following 60Co gamma irradiation of cock semen (1.7 or 17.0 and 85.0 rad), was higher with significance than that in an untreated control group. Results of equal value were recordable from sperma irradiation, using different doses between 1.7 and 85.0 rad. Irradiation of embryonated eggs, using 400 rad, caused higher body weight of day-old chicks and was accompanied by lower weights of heart, liver, and gizzard, whereas yolk sacs were 20 percent heavier than those in the control group. Treatment of sperm and/or embryonated eggs (10-400 rad) of parent animals (White Rock and New Hemisphere) was of no significant impact upon crude protein, crude fat, and crude ash levels in the body of day-old chicks.
