Abstract
In 39 digestibility experiments with king grass (Pennisetum purpureum .times. Pennisetum typhoides) carried out in different seasons and at various levels of N fertilization in Cuba, the relations between easily determinable parameters of the feed value and of the digestibility of the organic matter (DOM) and the energy content was studied. Two regression equations are indicated as suitable for the estimation of DOM. Using the parameters crude protein and lignin content and the in vitro digestibility of the organic matter (cellulase solubility) according to Nehring (1977), one can estimate the digestibility of king grass with an error of .+-.2 digestibility units. The digestible organic matter, the crude protein and lignin content as well as the in vitro digestibility of the organic matter can be used for the assessment of the content of metabolizable energy or net energy for fattening.
