Studies on adaptability of legume at alpine area i. effect of slope exposure and sowing season on legume composition of different legume grass mixtures

This experiment was carried out to investigate the effect of slope exposure and sowing season on percentage of legume of three different legume-grass mixtures of alpine area. The experiment was allocated as a split plot design with three replications on the south-and north-facing slope. The main plots were sowing season, spring and fall, and subplots were alfalfa-, and red clover-, and white clover-grass mixture. The experiment was undertaken over a period of 35 months from April, 1986 to October, 1988. The results obtained are summerized as follows: The percentage of legume was far higher on the south-facing slope than on the north-facing slope. The percentage of legume of fall-sown sward in 1988 considerably decreased compared with that in 1987, but that of spring-sown sward increased. Spring-sown red clover and white clover could grow on the south-facing slope. No selected legumes could grow on the north-facing slope regardless of sowing season.
