Studies on corm formation of gladiolus gandavensis 3. effects of planting time of cormels on the corm production dormancy and flowering of corm in next generation

This experiment was carried out to find out the growth and yield of gladiolus cormel planted periodically in the field, and tested of next generation in a greenhouse. The results were as follows. The latter planting time was, the shorter days to sprouting was in both cultivars used. In the percentage of sprouting, corms planted in May 28 and July 15 were lower than the corms planted in April 10 in 'Topaz'. In 'Traveler', corms planted in July was lower than those planted in April and May. The latter planting time became, the lower percentage of flowering was. The latter planting time, the smaller corms became. Plantings of April and May produced better quality corms than that of July. The earlier planting time was, the heavier the weight of new corms were. In the test of next generation, days to sprouting and flowering in July planting was shorter than that of April and May plantings. The quantity of endogenous ABA-like substances in planting of July was less than April and May, and planting of May was more than April. Flowering percentage of 60 days after harvest was lower than 20 days but planting of May was higher than others in 'Traveler'.
