Studies on dna dependent dna polymerase isolated from blood donor serum showing high activity of glutamic pyruvic transaminase gpt

We determined and analyzed the activity of DNA-dependent DNA polymerase in sera from blood donors having high levels of glutamic pyruvic transaminase (GPT) activity. When poly (dA)p(dT)10 was added to the reaction mixture as a template/primer, the mean DNA polymerase activity in the control sera from healthy volunteers was 240 cpm, while the value in the sera from blood donors showing high GPT activity was 1000 to 3000 cpm. When poly(dA)p(dT)10 was added as a template/primer, a slightly higher activity of DNA polymerase was obtained in the samples. The results of the present study indicate that a high activity of DNA-dependent DNA polymerase and a slight activity of RNA-dependent polymerase were contained in the sera of blood donors having high levels of GPT but seronegative for HBs antigen. Furthermore, the DNA-dependent DNA polymerase activity was detected at a peak with a density of 1.15 g/ml by sucrose gradient centrifugation.
