Studies on the morphological and immunological distinctness between ascaris suum goeze 1782 and ascaris lumbricoides linne 1758

Studies on the morphological and immunological distinctness between ascaris suum goeze 1782 and ascaris lumbricoides linne 1758

Indian Veterinary Medical Journal 14(3): 167-169

The morphological differences between Ascaris suum and Ascaris lumbricoides in respect of eggs, lips, dentigerous ridges, cuticular striations and spicules indicated specific differences in dentigerous ridges and lips. Immunological studies with whole worm defated saline extract of antigen of Ascaris suum and Ascaris lumbricoides revealed common antigens in agar gel diffusion test. But fractionated antigen of Ascaris suum showed precipitin lines with the hyperimmune sera of Ascaris suum only and not with the hyperimmune sera of Ascaris lumbricoides indicating validity and distinctness of porcine and human ascarids.
