To the formation of ceratite pavements in the germanic upper muschelkalk middle triassic southwest germany

To the formation of ceratite pavements in the germanic upper muschelkalk middle triassic southwest germany

Carolinea 45: 12-30

Museum material of Ceratite pavements from the Upper Muschelkalk (Middle Triassic) near Bruchsal (N-Baden) and recent findings from Heckfeld and Sindelfingen (Wurttemberg) are described and their taphonomic history is discussed: After sinking the empty Ceratite shells were bowled on the sea floor. On this occasion they broke first of all in the aperture region and in the ventral part of the phragmocone in front of the aperture. Then they were washed together lying mostly flat on the flanc and they were filled. They remained lying in this position up to their burial.
