Abstract
Cytoplasmic male sterility, 'Ogura' from B. napus was transferred to B. juncea by interspecific backcross substitution. The male sterile plants were characterised by rudimentary anthers with no pollen production. The female fertility though low initially improved with backcrossing and selection. Crosses with fifteen germplasm lines of B. juncea did not throw up any restorer. Leaf yellowing in seedlings was observed at low temperature.
