Use of anther culture in resistance and quality breeding of barley hordeum vulgare l

Use of anther culture in resistance and quality breeding of barley hordeum vulgare l

Bayerisches Landwirtschaftliches Jahrbuch 68(5): 649-656

The anther culture was used in a breeding program to improve resistence and quality in winter and spring barley. Doubled haploid plants were regenerated from 24 winter barley and 23 spring barley F1 and F2-genotypes. The average regeneration rates (number of green plants per 100 anthers) amounted to 22,4% for winter barley vs. 10.2% of spring barley. The genotypic influence of donor plants for the regeneration of green plants were evident. The regeneration rates varied between 0,9% and 78.3% for the winter barley genotypes and between 1,6% and 24,9% for the spring barley genotypes.
