Variation of the sixth and seventh components of complement in the japanese monkey

Variation of the sixth and seventh components of complement in the japanese monkey

Research and Practice in Forensic Medicine 33: 73-76

Variation of the complement components C6 and C7 in Japanese monkey (Macaca fuscata) was investigated using isoelectric focusing and immunoblotting techniques. Three common and two rare phenotypes of C6 were observed in 113 samples, and at least 4 different alleles were postulated to exist. The phenotypic distribution suggested that there was a considerable inter-troop difference in the gene frequencies in this species. Although most of the samples showed a similar C7 pattern, a presumed heterozygous phenotype was detected in 9 out of 113 animals. As a whole, the data on the Japanese monkey were similar to those reported for humans, rhesus monkeys and common marmosets.
