A hemodynamics study of Moyamoya disease with color Doppler flow image and color Doppler energy

The hemodynamics of the intracranial and extracranial arteries in 12 patients with Moyamoya disease and 22 healthy volunteers were studied by CDFI and CDE. The resistance index (RI), pulsatility index (PI), time-averaged flow velocity (Vm) and systolic peak flow velocity/diastolic velocity(S/D)were examined in arteries,including MCA, ACA, PCA, CCA, ICA, ECA, and TSA. The results showed that the resistance of the uninvolved PCA of the Moyamoya patients was significantly lower and the velocity was significantly higher than the control group (p<0.01). Contrasted to the normal control group, the resistance of Moyamoya disease's CCA, ICA appeared on the contrary, (P<0.010). The involving rate of PCA in child group was significantly higher than that in adult group being 60% and 7% respectively, (p<0.050). The Moyamoya vessels were detected as scattered color dots by CDE. Its low resistance and low flow velocity spectra were observed by pulsed wave Doppler.
