A study on the development of the ovaries of queen bees (Apis mellifera ligustica) instrumentally and naturally mated

A study on the development of the ovaries of queen bees (Apis mellifera ligustica) instrumentally and naturally mated

Apicoltore Moderno 87(2): 65-70

As a part of a wider research project on 2-year old queen bees mated in different ways (naturally mated=FN; instrumentally inseminated=IS), this study sets out to examine a number of features of the ovaries (size, appearance and total number of ovarioles, left and right, etc.) for 57 queen bees (30 IS and 27 IN). The queen in both groups were taken from a closed population selection programme.
