An evaluation of actosin ointment against superficial cutaneous blood flow: A laser Doppler flowmetric study

We have evaluated Actosin ointment against superficial cutaneous blood flow using a laser Doppler blood flowmeter in normal human skin and compared its effects with two drugs that are used for the treatment of decubitus and skin ulcer. The extensor site of the thigh of healthy male subjects with supine position was used for the study. Actosin ointment, Olcenon ointment, and Solcosery ointment were tested. White petrolatum was used as a control. The instrument was a laser Doppler blood flowmeter Model MBF3D. After cornified layers were stripped by adhesive tapes, each substance was applied. The drug was removed and the measurement was performed up to 80 min after the starting point of application. Actosin ointment had the highest effect of vasodilation in the three drugs and its effect continued at a higher level. Increase of erythrocytes velocity and blood flow due to Actosin ointment was the highest in the three drugs. These results suggest that increase of blood flow to Actosin ointment is caused by the augmentative effect of vasodilation and increase of velocity.
