Aspergillus galactomannan antigen detection with Platelia Aspergillus: Multiple positive antigenemia without Aspergillus infection

Aspergillus galactomannan antigen detection with Platelia Aspergillus: Multiple positive antigenemia without Aspergillus infection

Journal de Mycologie Medicale 8(2): 112-113, June

The detection of Aspergillus galactomannan antigen with the Platelia Aspergillus test allow early diagnosis of invasive aspergillosis in immunocompromised patients. We observed a high rate of positive antigenemia in bone marrow transplant children without any sip of infection. In order to explore the origin of these false-positive results, we tested the presence of galactomannan in the foods supplied to these children. All foods containing cereals products were positives. These data suggest that the heat-resistant Aspergillus galactomannan which is not eliminated by sterilization processes may reach the circulation through damaged intestinal mucosa in these children and may cause false-positive antigenemia.
