Blood flow of the normal senile person's ophthalmic artery and central retinal artery examined with color Doppler ultrasonography

Blood flows of the ophthalmic artery and central retinal artery were studied in 68 normal senile persons with color Doppler imaging. The average velocity of the ophthalmic artery blood flow in the peak systolic period is 32.54 +- 7.69cm/s, in the diastolic period is 9.10 +- 2.66cm/s. RI is 0.72 +- 0.65, PI is 1.67 +- 0.43. The average velocity of central retinal artery blood flow in the peak systolic period is 9.80 +- 1.67cm/s, in diastolic period is 4.10 +- 0.90cm/s, RI is 0.60 +- 0.10, PI is 1.15 +- 0.21. RI and PI are significantly different between normal senile persons with different ages. RI and PI may be more sensitive to reflect the aging changes of the smaller vessels.
