Breeding of the tufted duck (Aythya fuligula) in the Pokupsko Basin (Croatia)

Breeding of the tufted duck (Aythya fuligula) in the Pokupsko Basin (Croatia)

Larus 44-45(0): 33-40

The tufted duck (Aythya fuligula) belongs to the palaearctic faunal type. Its expansion towards west, which was noticed since late 19th century, results in spreading and increasing number in the Middle Europe. Recent increases in the tufted duck are helped by ability to use man-made habitats. During last few years, the breeding of this species in Croatia was confirmed for the first time at three different localities in the Pokupsko Basin.
