Effect of dry seedling and nitrogen level on improved genotypes of sorghum (Sorghum bicolor) under rainfed condition
A field experiment was conducted during north-east monsoon seasons of 1986-87 to 1990-91 at Coimbatore, to study the effect of dry seeding and nitrogen levels on some improved genotypes of sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench). The dry seeding or premonsoon sowing, i.e. 1 week or 2 weeks before onset of monsoon (38th-39th standard week), was superior to normal seeding in increasing grain (33%) and straw (8.3%) yields of sorghum and rainfall-use efficiency (28%).
