Eight new species in the lichen genus Parmelia (Parmeliaceae, Ascomycotina) are described from southern Africa. They are: Parmelia antedeluvialis Brusse and Sipman, P. diutina Brusse, P. epacridea Brusse, P. erebea Brusse, P. manina Brusse, P. nautilomontana Brusse, P. pristiloba Brusse and P. tyrrhea Brusse. Three new combinations are made: Bullatina microcarpa (Vezda) Brusse, Cliostomwn flavum (Zahlbr.) Brusse and Parmelia putsoa (Hale) Brusse. Ten new records for southern Africa are reported. The name Parmelia festiva Brusse is explicitly typified, to exclude a discordant element.
