Expression of the giant egg gene (Ge) in triploid eggs of the silkworm, Bombyx mori

Expression of the giant egg gene (Ge) in triploid eggs of the silkworm, Bombyx mori

Journal of Sericultural Science of Japan 63(5): 347-352

Triploid silkworms with one giant egg gene (Ge/+/W) were induced by hot water treatment applied to the inseminated eggs shortly after oviposition. Like +/+/W type triploids, the present triploids primarily produced eggs which were irregular in shape and size but occasionally gave eggs with the normal shape.
