Genetic trend for milk yield in Holstein cattle in Brazil in the United State of America

A study of the compared genetic trend for first lactation milk yield in Holstein cattle between Brazil and USA was carried out to show the difference in the progress of this breed in both countries. There were used the strategies of the restricted maximum likelihood method, using a derivative-free algorithm (MTDFREML), through an animal model analyses. The data represented 266,764 records, from 3,458 herds in the New York State and 21,515 records, from 724 herds in Brazil. Significant regression coefficient were found for both countries but greater for the USA (46.76) than for Brazil (8.43).
