Genotypic and phenotypic correlations among characters of the mature rubber tree

Genotypic phenotypic and environmental correlations among yield growth and laticiferous system characters of mature rubber trees were estimated. The data were computed from a six replicated mature trial involving eleven clones of rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis (Wifld. ex Adr. de Juss.) Muell. Arg.) established in Tabapua, state of Sao Paulo, Brazil. The studied characters for yield were: average over four years, yield index average and average of the fourth year yielding of tapping. The characters for growth analysis were: increment over four years of tapping, annual girth of the four years of tapping, girth at panel opening. The studied characters for laticiferous system were: virgin bark thickness, total number of latex vessel rings, overall density of latex vessel per ring per five millimeters of bark, average diameter of latex vessels and average distance between consecutive latex vessel rings. The results among yield characters showed high and significant genotypic and phenotypic correlations only among themselves. The characters related to growth showed high and significant genotypic and phenotypic correlations among the laticiferous system characters, Total number of latex vessel rings was not correlated with yield characters. Twenty five percent of the highly significant environmental correlation showed that the correlated characters are affected by the same environmental conditions in a similar way.
