Gymnostellatospora japonica Udagawa, Uchiyama et Kamiya, a new genus and species of the Myxotrichaceae, is described and illustrated, having been isolated from forest and grassland soils in the Tokyo megalopolis, Japan. The fungus is considered to be distinct from other gymnoascaceous genera by the ascospores with three prominent longitudinal crests.
