Myiasis caused by Cephalopina titillator in camels slaughtered at Sokoto City Abattoir, Nigeria

Myiasis caused by Cephalopina titillator in camels slaughtered at Sokoto City Abattoir, Nigeria

Israel Journal of Veterinary Medicine 47(4): 94-95, 153-154

The heads of 224 camels (Camelus dromedarius), slaughtered at the Sokoto city abattoir, between December 1990 and April 1991, were examined for larvae of Cophalopina titillator. larvae were found in 131 animals (58.4%). The larval load ranged from 1 to 141 per animal. Most of the camels, observed before slaughter, did not show any signs of respiratory distress. To the best of the author's knowledge this is the first documented study of C. titillator myiasis in Nigeria.
