Ontogenesis of gall-forming nematodes Anguina agropyri and Subanguina radicicola

Cleavage in two studied species of nematodes is a modified spiral cleavage of the duet type. Gastrulation starts at the 16-cell stage with respect to displacement of some blastomeres in the leotropic direction. Formation of endoderm, ectoderm, ectomesoderm and hypoderm takes place due to the capacity of some embryonic cells of markedly increasing their surface and overgrowing the neighbor cells. During embryogenesis and postembryogenesis the cells-inducers play an important part in development of the digestive and genital systems. Rings of six neighbor cells are usually formed near their nuclei. Formation of the digestive and genital systems also involves incorporation of the musculo-cutaneous sac cells in them. The shape of the anterior body part of the larvae depends on the cuticle thickness, presence or absence of head capsule, and on the functional state of the musculo-cutaneous sac muscle.
