This study was designed to establish the optimal surgical approaches to the vertebral bodies of the lower cervical spinal column. The necessity to obtain a more accurate surgical satisfaction to some disorders of the cervical spinal column has focused the attention to the anterior or antero-lateral approach to the neck, which has become widely accepted because of its simplicity and mainly due to the fact that several pathologies located in that area, can be reached directly. The description in this article of some details of regional anatomy referred to the mentioned area, will provide the key to a better understanding to improve the surgical performance. The operative technique of the antero-lateral approach is well detailed.
