Physiological and genetic principles of the prediction of the time of the heading and control of the development of recombinant wheat lines with assigned early ripening

Principles of physiological and genetic support of wheat breeding for early ripening were developed on the basis of the detection of regularities in the inheritance of the length of the period of the ontogeny of germination-booting and booting-heading. The study of the response of 29 durum wheat cultivars and 8 soft wheat cultivars to changes in photoperiodic regime demonstrated varying responsiveness of the specimens for the periods of ontogeny considered. Experiments made it possible to establish the fact of the predominantly independent inheritance of the length of the periods of wheat ontogeny from germination to heading. This regularity serves as a theoretical basis of the prediction of the features of the cleavage of hybrid progeny of concrete crossing combinations. The nature of recombinations (transgressive or intermediate) and the structure of ontogeny also can be predicted which makes it possible to create wheat lines with assigned structure and length of ontogeny.
