Respiration and generation of the superoxide radical in root cells under the effect of exogenous RNAse

The exogeneous RNAse is shown to result in activation of oxygen uptake, superoxide radical generation and membrane potential increase in the cut-off wheat roots. The effects are observed only with the preliminary "transfer" of the root cells into a "relative rest"-state (preincubation within 5 hours in the calcium chloride solution). The conclusion is made that the exogenous RNAase induces an increase of the plasma membrane permeability for ions, in particular, for protons, which is a reason of the sharp rise of energy expenditures for their active transport.
