, : Seven grapevine varieties freed from viruses by meristem tip culture in Sao Paulo. Summa Phytopathologica 19(2): 96-98

Tests were carried out in Sao Paulo to produce virus-free grape propagative material by the technique of meristem culture. Meristem tips containing 3 leaf primordia (0,2 - 0,3 mm) were cultured in an agar-based medium at 25 degree C during a 16 hours photoperiod (1000 lux). Shoot tips were collected from greenhouse plants of the scion varieties Alphonse Lavallee, Aramon, IAC 457-11 (Paulistinha), IAC 514-6 (Maria), IAC 842-4v (Piratininga). JD 930 (Moscatel Jundiai) and Seibel 2, that were infected, individually or in a mixture, by the grapevine leafroll, grapevine fleck and grapevine corky bark viruses. Indexing tests by grafting onto standard indictor varieties showed that 28 out of 34 plants were free of the viruses present in the original grapevines. Healthy material of 7 varieties were obtained. Data show that meristem tip culture can be used to recover virus-free grapevines in Sao Paulo.
