Skull morphology of the deep-sea goby Gobius bathybius Kessler in connection with its taxonomic position within the genus Gobius sensu lato (Gobiidae)

Skull morphology of the deep-sea goby Gobius bathybius Kessler in connection with its taxonomic position within the genus Gobius sensu lato (Gobiidae)

Voprosy Ikhtiologii 36(4): 448-453

Structure of the skull and its bones in the deep-sea goby Gobius bathybius is described. Comparative analysis using craniological and traditional diagnostic criteria of external morphology was conducted with other subgenera of the genus Gobius sensu lato studies earlier. As a result, classifying G. bathybius into a separate subgenus Chasar Iljin is justified.
