Spontaneous rupture of the ureter caused by primary ureteral cancer

Spontaneous rupture of the ureter caused by primary ureteral cancer

Rinsho Hinyokika 50(12): 939-941

An 87-year-old woman with chief complaints of left flank pain, nausea and vomiting showed hydronephrosis and periureteral extravasation in left side by abdominal computed tomography. Diagnosis of spontaneous ureteral rupture due to left ureteral tumor was made by lower abdominal computed tomography and retrograde pyelography. Partial ureterectomy and uretero-vesico neostomy were performed because surgical margin was proved to be free by frozen section. Histopathological examination of the tumor was transitional cell carcinoma, G2 gt gt G3, pT2. Spontaneous rupture of ureter caused by primary ureteral cancer has been rarely reported, and our patient was the second reported case in the Japanese literature. Clinical study and reviews of the literature was also performed.
