Studies on theory of mind: Implications for the research with children and adults

The aim of this paper is to emphasize some links between the studies on children's theory of mind and other fields of research. First, we describe some of the most important findings about child's theory of mind, and some studies carried out in order to study adult's theory of mind by means of "joint plan" and "social emotion" concepts. Secondly, we describe the relationship between theory of mind, children's understanding of emotions and some children's metalinguistic competencies, such as the ability to understand the distinction between what is said and what is meant. Finally, we consider the relation between theory of mind, narrative thought and children's narrative competency.
