The Afrotropical Ascalaphidae (hapologleniinae: Proctolyrinin, Melambrotini and Campyloplebini) have been revised. The exernal morphology of imagines, larvae, pupae and eggs is described. In Hapologeleniinae the following new tribes are desribed: Tmesibasini n. tr., Melambrotini n. tr., Proctolyrini n. tr., Allocormodini n. tr. and Campylophlebiini n. tr.
