Algologicaly pure cultures of S. acuminatus, A. fusiformis and A. flos-aquae have served as an examply to study the process of transformation of basic nitrogen-containing fertilizers: (NH-4)-2SO-4, KNO-3, NH-4,NO-3 and (NH-2)-2CO. A typical peculiarity of the growth of green algae on the medium with potash and ammoniac saltpeter is the accumulation of excess amount of nitrite nitrogen in the environment. The growth of S. acuminatus, A. fusiformis on the medium with ammonium carbonate was accompanied by active consumption of , whereas in the variant with urea they were accumulated for the first two months of the experiment. The growth of blue-green A. flos-aquae on the medium with ammonium carbonate and urea was characterized by suppression and the following necrosis of the culture.
