Trends of milk productivity in relation to the year and herd productivity level

Trends of milk productivity in relation to the year and herd productivity level

Zhivotnov"dni Nauki 34(1-2): 37-40

Records for milk yield, milk butter and fat percentage in milk for 14061 0 lactations (until 3rd) of 76340 Black-and-white high producing cows from 601 herds, daughters of 1532 sires, and 14749 lactations of 7234 Brown cows in 100 herds, daughters of 441 sires were analysed. The pseudoabsorption strategy (Ducroq et al., 1990) was used as a basic method to calculate the environmental (herd, year, season) and genetic (additive effect of individual) effects. After the absorption of permanent environmental effect equations and pseudoabsorption of additive effects of individuals, the decisions for herds and years were made using regular iterations according to Gauss-Seidel. For cows changing their location from one herd into another, the production after the change was not considered. It was found that the period between 1986 and 1990 was most suitable for use as a genetic basis for deviation when calculating the breeding values of Black-and-white and Brown dairy cows. The milk production genetic potential for both breeds can be best realised at technological level providing production of 5000-6000 kg of milk.
