Ultrastructural changes in liver and intestinal epithelial cells of chicken embryos treated with aflatoxin B-2 and aflatoxin G-2

In this study, inseminated chicken eggs incubated for ten days were injected with LD-30 dose of aflatoxin B-2 and aflatoxin G-2. At the end of the incubation period, ultrastructural changes of liver and intestinal epithelial cells of the embryos were examined using electron microscopy techniques. There was an increase in both size and number of seconder lysosomes of liver parenchymal cells of aflatoxin G-2 treated embryos. Enlargement of cisternae, formation of vacuole, nicked-nucleus and pycnotic nucleus, increase in number of lipid vacuole, and separation of nucleolus components were reported in liver parenchymal cells of aflatoxin B-2 treated embryos. These changes were also occurred in liver parenchymal cells when the chicken embryos were treated with high dose of aflatoxin B-2. On the other hand, intestinal surface cells exhibited some changes such as, increase in perinuclear space, formation of heterochromatic nucleus and degradation of nucleus.
