The urban wastewater purification and the re-use of treated water in urban market gardening schemes has become a priority in the senegalese new management policy of water resources. Adding to the fact that wastewater discharge is accountable for progressive environmental and natural resources degradation, it also favours water-borne diseases. In addition, in some countries, wastewaters are used without treatment in urban market gardening.
