Using B-mode real-time ultrasound for pregnancy diagnosis of range sheep

B-mode, real-time ultrasonic imaging is a two-dimensional display of dots on a cathode ray tube screen. Real-time ultrasound imaging refers to the "live" or moving display in which the echoes are recorded and repeated continuously. The images move as the structures change location. Since most techniques developed for pregnancy detection in ewes have limited field application because of expense, accuracy rates, impracticality, ewe and human safety considerations, or delay in the availability of results, ultrasound technology has also been studied for determining pregnancy and for determining fetal numbers in the ewe. Scanning is now highly accepted as a significant aid to sheep management and production efficiency in the United Kingdom because it can provide more valuable information to the producer than other techniques.
