A gene encoding a homologue to dolichol-phosphate-mannose synthase was shown to be essential for phage sensitivity in Streptomyces coelicolor. It is known that a gene encoding a homologue to the eukaryotic dolichol-phosphate- D-mannose, protein O- D-mannosyltransferase, is necessary for fC31 infection of S. coelicolor. The findings confirm the role of glycosylation in the phage receptor for fC31 in S. coelicolor.
