Determination of myoglobin in plasma is used as a very early and sensitive marker for the diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction. (AMI) Several commercial immunological kits are available for this assay. We have compared four of them to find out the one most fitted to the needs and facilities of our emergency laboratory. Although all of them appeared reliable the most convenient for our reality was found to be the Turbiquant for the stability of its reagents and of the calibration curve and for the possibility of rapidly performing the assay on a common analyzer like Hitachi 717.
