French unions hopeful of delaying reforms until after consultation

French unions hopeful of delaying reforms until after consultation

Nature 399(6732

Trade unions representing French scientists are hopeful of delaying government reforms until after the completion of a national consultation on research. Under pressure from the prime minister's office, the science ministry has acceded to the unions' calls to postpone an interministerial meeting on research. The unions felt that the meeting indicated the ministry's intention to ignore the consultation and push ahead with its own reforms, whereas the ministry claimed that the meeting would deal only with strategic research themes and industrial research.
