A report of the mapping of the artPIQMJ genes encoding a periplasmic transport system that acts to mediate the uptake of arginine in Escherichia coli. Sequencing of the area revealed that the 5 genes are contiguous. A restriction map of the region was obtained using 8 enzymes and by an analysis of the nucleotide sequence.
