Monodesmosides of hederagenin from pericarps of Sapindus mukurossi exhibited potent antimicrobial activities on dermatophytes; Epidermophyton floccosum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, T. rubrum, Sabouraudites canis and Candida albicans. The structure-activity relationship was also studied. The saponins of the pericarps seem to be promising as an ingredient of cosmetics for protection of skin from dermatomycosis.
