Consecutive animal experimental study of Color Doppler Flow Image in detecting renal hemodynamics in unilateral hydronephrosis

Objective: To elucidate the consecutive effects of renal hemodynamics in unilateral hydronephrosis and predict the renal function. Methods: We used rat models with complete unilateral obstructive to detect the renal hemodynamics consecutively by Color Doppler Flow Image (CDFI) in different obstructive periods. Results: Renal blood resistive index (RI) increased. Renal pelvis volume (V) and anteroposteric diameter (APD) became bigger. Renal cortex thickness (RCT) became thinner while hydronephrosis progressed. It was significant differences compared with the control group (P<0.05). From the 6th week after obstruction, renal artery RI increased obviously. The difference of each group was significant (P<0.01). The blood signal of introrenal artery in the 6th week and renal artery in the 12th week after obstruction could not be detected. Conclusion: The change of renal hemodynamics could show the severity degree of hydronephrosis and RI could be used as a referable marker for predict the renal function in clinic.
