Differential neonatal imprinting and regulation by estrogen of estrogen receptor subtypes alpha and beta and of the truncated estrogen receptor product (TERP-1) mRNA expression in the male rat pituitary

Differential neonatal imprinting and regulation by estrogen of estrogen receptor subtypes alpha and beta and of the truncated estrogen receptor product (TERP-1) mRNA expression in the male rat pituitary

Neuroendocrinology 74(5): 347-358

Two distinct nuclear estrogen receptors (ERs) have been identified, the classical one, renamed ERalpha, and the more recently cloned ERbeta. In a variety of tissues, gene expression of both receptor subtypes results in the generation of multiple transcripts encoding the full-length as well as several alternately spliced isoforms. In the rat pituitary, a truncated, tissue-specific variant of ERalpha, called TERP-1, has been identified and found able to modulate ERalpha and ERbeta activity.
