Effect of planting pattern and intercrop on yield and economics of pigeonpea (Cajanus cajan)-based intercropping system

A field experiment was conducted from 1997-98 to 1999-2000 to work out the suitable planting pattern with different intercrops in pigeonpea (Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp.)-based intercropping system for Central Plain Zone of Uttar Pradesh under rainfed conditions. Overall soybean (Glysine max (L.) Merr.) intercropped with pigeonpea gave the highest net returns (Rs 19,465/ha). In general, replacement series resulted in significantly higher pigeonpea-equivalent yield than additive series.
