Evaluation of hemodynamic changes in the ophthalmic artery with Color Doppler ultrasonography in high myopia

Objective: To investigate the blood flow changes in the ophthalmic artery in high myopia patients. Methods: Forty two high myopes and 30 normal persons were examined by using Color Doppler ultrasonography (CDU). The sistolic velocity (Vs), diastolic velocity (Vd) and resistance index (RI) of ophthalmic artery (OA), pasterior ciliary artery (PCA) and Central retinal artery (CRA) were determined. Results: In high myopes, OA and PCA showed decrease in Vd and increase in RL CRA showed significant decrease in Vs and Vd. Conclusion: There was significant reduction of blood flow velocity in retina and choroid-artery. It may be one of the reasons causing degenerative atrophia of retina and choroid.
