Is 'stress-ethylene' the cause of mango (Mangifera indica L.) malformation?

The etiology of mango malformation which strikes young seedlings as well as flowering trees of mango (Mangifera indica L.) has been controversial. The malady has variously been considered to be acarological, viral, fungal and physiological in nature. The disease is causing considerable damage to the mango orchards in India and elsewhere. A tree once affected never recovers in the subsequent years. No effective prophylactic measure is known against the disease at present.
